When (mostly absent-mindedly) playing with grass: I love to rip up the middle blade from the center of the grass-growth, and then open its folded sides. Then you rip down the middle, and roll each side up into a tiny spiral.

These flags were made from tearing a small slot down the middle of each blade and then hanging it on the sticks
